Yesterday I had the first of my shoots using colour gels.
I was really excited to do this shoot and has previously arranged a model, photographer and stylist to help me out but unfortunately the day before the shoot my model cancelled as her car broke down. This made me very panicked as it was so soon before the shoot, but luckily I managed to find another model. The model I used was a size 12 however which meant that the stylist didn't have many items of clothing in the correct size. As I was working on the Sunday I didn't get a chance to go shopping and buy any items for the shoot, but I did order some dresses from Topshop and paid for next day store delivery, intending to pick this up on my way to the shoot. Unfortunately these did not arrive on time so I selected a few items of my own to take.
When it came to the time of the shoot I arrived at the university studios an hour beforehand with my model to do makeup and apply the pieces. I also met with the stylist to discuss what items she had brought so I could think about placement of the pieces. It really became clear to me at this point that I need to improve my communication skills when discussing my ideas for a shoot. I think that this is something I will improve on as I gain more experience, and I will try and bring some images along to shoots with me to help get my ideas across.
Overall I am really happy with how the shoot went and I can't wait to see the final images. My photographer has offered to edit the images for me so I will get them back soon, but for now here are some images from my phone.
When applying these pieces I noticed that I struggled with keeping them from sticking to themselves when I applied the glue. To prevent this happening in future I will make borders for the pieces to give the surrounding baldies blendable edges some support. This is something I have seen many professionals do when creating and applying their silicone pieces so it must be useful in some way!

Something I noticed from this shoot is that it is quite difficult to add and remove pieces during the shoot and it does result in stopping and starting the shoot which can feel like a waste of time. In future I will plan for less changes or I will have two models so we don't have to start and stop.
